THINGS TO DO WITH CHILDREN
WITHIN 2 MILES - MOSTLY WALKING DISTANCE
There is small play area in All Stretton just a few mins walk - I have not been to look yet but think it is left out of Clearviews, then right onto Starr Lane then left after crossing the stream. See if you can find it an let me know!
5+ CHILDREN PLAY PARK
Turn right out of Clearviews, walk past the school and leisure centre on your left. Take next left onto Churchill Road and you will find the park on the right.
Under 5 and 5+ PLAY PARK
Keep walking along Churchill Road around the corner and then spot the pedestrian walkway on the left (see Google Maps link). Cross the railway line walk into the field and you will see the park ahead of you to the right (it’s adjacent to the A49.) Great park for really young kids and older one. There is pitch and put here too if you can find the groundsman to let you in!
When the factory is open you can walk to the Princes Stretton Mineral Water Factory and fill your water bottles up with free mineral water out of the tap outside the factory! Turn right out of Clearviews and walk approx 0.25miles - the tap is on the same side of the road.
There is a small swimming pool in Church Stretton which run family sessions most mornings and afternoons in the pool where there are floats and balls and fun things to play with in the pool. Children who can swim and are over 8 can swim without an adult present. Turn right out of Clearviews and walk approx 0.25 miles - the Leisure Centre is on the left just past the Secondary School and before the Primary School.
CARDINGMILL VALLEY (National Trust)
What is there not to love about Carding Mill Valley. See the website for their top 10 suggestions of things to do including pond dipping, grass sledging, paddling in the stream and more. Turn right out of Clearviews and walk approx 0.5 miles and turn right just past the school to the National Trust car park. Parking is free for members and a small fee for non-members.
Arguably more beautiful than Carding Mill Valley (and certainly quieter) you can walk or drive here for a picnic and a paddle in the stream or take a short walk. Parking is free to everyone BUT it does not benefit from toilets or a shop. Turn left out of Clearviews, go all the through All Stretton then turn right signposted INWOOD - see Google Maps here. Its 1.5 miles.
WOODEN SCULPTURE WALK
The Sculpture Park walk up by the Long Mynd Hotel in Church Stretton - lots of wooden animals carved into the tree stumps along the walk. Turn right out of Clearviews, drive through Church Stretton over the mini roundabout (Co-op to left). Take your first right up Cunnery Road and park at the Long Mynd Hotel OR take a walk up through Rectory Woods to the Park.
A SHORT DRIVE
WORKING FARM (Acton Scott)
Historic Working Farm offers a fascinating insight into rural life at the turn of the 19th century, as farm life unfolds daily and the land around is worked by heavy horses. There are daily demonstrations of period skills and visits from the Wheelwright, Farrier and Blacksmith, providing a picture of life as it might have been on a Victorian country estate. It is quite expensive for what it is. Turn right out of Clearviews. Take third left through the town to A49. Turn right onto A49. Two adults and upto three children £25.
DISCOVERY CENTRE (Craven Arms)
Turn right out of Clearviews. Take third left through the town to A49. Turn right onto A49. You will reach Craven Arms. Keep going through the town and as you leave the town you will see the Discovery Centre on the left. Lots of pram friendly walks and things to see for the kids. Often run courses. Nice cafe for snacks and lunch. FISH & CHIPS in Craven Arms are great.
PLAY BARN (Craven Arms)
Mickey Millars in Craven Arms where ADULTS can go on too and there is a scary drop slide that you can dare the lads to go down. They do charge for adults as well as children (£4.50 I think) and you need to check they are open. You can also take the babies down the big wavy slide on your knee which is a great experience for them!
STOKESAY CASTLE (Craven Arms)
Step into the finest and best-preserved fortified medieval manor house in England. Discover the great hall, unchanged for over 700 years. Spot characters carved in the timbers of the 17th-century gatehouse and climb to the top of a fairy-tale tower for breathtaking views of the Shropshire Hills. Family of two adults and three children approx £20.
SOFT PLAY (Ludlow)
Monkey Mania in Ludlow.
Little farm at Tuffins in Churchstoke (approx 25 mins drive) and after you can go to the Vineyard http://www.kerryvalevineyard.co.uk/ and after than a few miles further on is Dairy Dreams http://www.dairydreams.co.uk/ - apparently the ice-cream is LUSH!
World heritage Site and great destination for a day out approximately 35 minute drive. Explore 10 award-winning attractions. Annual Passport Tickets are the best value. You can buy them on the gate at any of the museums or online to save time and money! Approx £65 for a family.
Stop off at Much Wenlock on the way home - the butcher is great there (always a queue)...they do very reasonably priced cottage pies/lasagne and HUGE quiches to feed the whole house.
Attingham Park (National Trust) in Atcham, Nr Shrewsbury is very kiddy orientated - lovely play park for them to run around. Other National Trust places in all directions. Look online.
Near Shrewsbury, this has a great walk around the forest and you can download a gruffalo app and go gruffalo hunting!
BRITISH IRON WORKS CENTRE
There is an iron museum on the A5 towards Oswestry which a few people said is very good.
PARK HALL FARM
Again near Oswestry. http://www.parkhallfarm.co.uk/
Apparently very very good for kids http://www.owlcentre.com/ Had quite a few people saying that this was great place to go!
